Four perish in Kohat tunnel blast

KOHAT: At least four people including two women lost their lives and fourteen others sustained injuries in what has been termed by security sources an explosion occurred after an explosives-laden vehicle met accident in a tunnel in Kohat late Friday, Geo News reported.

Killed and injured persons have been shifted to hospital for autopsy and medical treatment, as rescue efforts are underway, forces said.

Four among fourteen wounded persons have been said to be critical in condition, hospital sources confirmed to media.

Meanwhile, the explosion has led to temporary closure of Kohat tunnel for all kinds of traffic, as rescue activities are underway, security forces said.

Kohat tunnel, opened for traffic two months ago, has received minor damages due to blast. Previously, the tunnel was closed for traffic for two years.

The attacks took place late Friday night in and outside a major road tunnel, which connects the main city of Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province to the city of Kohat, also in the northwest.
