ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Finance Hina Rabbani Khar informed the senate on Friday that total taxpayers in the country stands at around 3.4 million.
In written reply to Upper House, the minister said, "The total number of taxpayers in the country are 3,042,246".
She further informed that particulars of the taxpayers cannot be made public under the prohibitive provision of section 216 of the income tax ordinance 2001 adding there is no proposal to publish a tax directory.
She said pay and scales of government employees were revised on July, 1, 2008. However adhoc increase in pay and pension was provided to the government employees on July, 1, 2009.
The minister said since revision of 2008 pay scales about 2,1795 employees of the federal government have retired form the service.
The pension of the government employees was calculated on the basic of last basic pay drawn.
